That was hot

We’re based on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. Gorgeous place. Much of that beauty comes from being an island and much of it comes from being a temperate rain forest. Both of those things are supposed to mean a moderate climate. You may have seen us on the news recently, no matter where in the world you live. We just had a record shattering heatwave. The haze in the photo above is pure heat.

This last week has been rough. I know other places in the world see 40+C regularly but they all have air conditioning and good double pain glass in the windows. Basements. We generally don’t. Maybe some basements. I do have an air conditioner and 6 inches from the vent it was 33C.

Forest fires in the province have started as a result of a period of lightning strikes that followed that had meteorologists making comments like, “I’ve never seen anything like it before.”

Which is all to say, if we missed a couple days photographs it’s because we were hiding and turning the computer on could have raised the room temperature. Would have. We’re back to our regularly scheduled weather now, the air conditioner can keep up again and there will be more photographs. Maybe even some beach video!
